Cornelius Zimmermann is a German diplomat who was born on April 7, 1962. Cornelius Zimmermann has been serving as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Lithuania and based on this, he oversees the activities at the embassy and heads the embassy in Vinius. It is important to note that Cornelius Zimmermann completed preparatory service for higher foreign service at the Federal Foreign officer’s Training Center from 1989 to 1991.
He was then appointed to work as a consultant for the Nordic states till 1992. Cornelius Zimmermann served as a political consultant at the embassy in South Africa from 1992 to 1995.
He resumed work at the headquarters as a consultant working with the disarmament department from 1995 to 1997. For a period of two years, he also served in the parliamentary and cabinet departments.
Cornelius Zimmermann was part of the Permanent Mission to NATO between 1999 and 2003 and was in charge of issues that related to NATO expansion and the Membership Action Plan. Upon returning to the headquarters in Berlin, he was made deputy head of the OSCE department between 2003 and 2007 and between 2007 and 2013, he headed the foreign policy department at the Federal President’s office.
Cornelius Zimmermann subsequently managed the Consul General in Afghanistan till 2015. He moved to the office of the OSCE Secretary General in Austria. He served as an advisor and representative of the future German OSCE chairmanship with the official title of Ambassador till 2016. Over the years, Cornelius Zimmermann has held other positions.
