Carey Hannah Mulligan has become a highly talented and diverse actress in the entertainment world. In addition to nominations for two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award, she has won other honors, including a British Academy Film Award.

Carey Hannah Mulligan was born on May 28, 1985, in London to Nano and Stephen Mulligan. Her father is a hotel manager of Irish descent from Liverpool, and her mother is a university lecturer, hailing from Llandeilo, Wales.

At the age of three, Mulligan’s family relocated to West Germany due to her father’s hotel management responsibilities. During their time there, she and her brother attended the International School of Düsseldorf. Returning to the UK when she was eight, Mulligan continued her education as a teenager at Woldingham School, an independent institution in Surrey.

Mulligan’s acting began with her stage debut in Kevin Elyot’s play “Forty Winks” (2004) at the Royal Court Theatre. She continued to make waves in the theatre world, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for her Broadway debut in the revival of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull” (2008).

In 2005, Carey Mulligan made her film debut with a supporting role in Joe Wright’s romantic drama “Pride & Prejudice.” However, it was her breakthrough role as a 1960s schoolgirl in the coming-of-age film “An Education” (2009) that propelled her into the spotlight. For this performance, Mulligan not only won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role but also received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Following her breakthrough, Mulligan showcased her acting prowess in a variety of roles. She delivered captivating performances in films such as “Never Let Me Go” (2010), “Drive” (2011), “Shame” (2011), “The Great Gatsby” (2013), “Inside Llewyn Davis” (2013), “Far from the Madding Crowd” (2015), “Suffragette” (2015), “Mudbound” (2017), “Wildlife” (2018), “She Said” (2022), and “Maestro” (2023). Her ability to embody diverse characters across genres has solidified her reputation as a versatile and sought-after actress.

Carey Mulligan’s talent extends beyond the screen. Her stage performances, particularly in the Broadway revival of David Hare’s “Skylight” (2015), earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play. On the cinematic front, her portrayal of a vigilante in the black comedy “Promising Young Woman” (2020) garnered her a second Academy Award nomination.
