Who Is Anton Hofreiter?

Anton “Toni” Hofreiter was born on 2 February 1970 in Germany. He is a well-known German politician who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany, since the 2005 elections.

Hofreiter is a member of the Alliance 90/Greens political party and has served in the Bundestag for almost 15 years. From 2005 to 2013, he was a member of the Committee on Transport, Building, and Urban Development.

His knowledge and competence in this subject earned him the position of committee chairman from 2011 to 2013. During this time, Hofreiter was also a member of the German-Austrian Parliamentary Friendship Group, which promoted strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Hofreiter and Katrin Göring-Eckardt were elected as co-chairs of the Green Party’s parliamentary group in October 2013. This position allowed him to have a substantial impact on the party’s policies and goals.

He was in this role till December 20, 2021. Interestingly, he was voted unopposed as the lone candidate of the group’s left side in 2013, demonstrating his party members’ trust and support.

Hofreiter has long been an advocate for open government and accountability. He and several other legislators filed a constitutional lawsuit against Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government in 2011 for suppressing information about Deutsche Bahn and financial market supervision.

Furthermore, amid the European migration crisis, Hofreiter has been a vocal backer of a liberal migration policy. He believes in a compassionate approach to migrants and advocates for refugees’ equitable treatment and integration.

Aside from politics, Hofreiter is interested in a variety of other pursuits. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Denkwerk Demokratie, an organisation dedicated to democratic strengthening.
