Actress Haverland studied under Karl Gustav Berndal and Minona Frieb-Blumauer. She was born in Berlin. She made her stage debut in 1871 at the Stadttheater Leipzig as a young romantic.
She kept booking performances at the Dresdner Hoftheater, where she portrayed the lead in both contemporary and traditional pieces. Karl Hoff asked her to play Germania at a festival honoring William I in 1877.
Haverrland made her stage debut as The Maid of Orleans at the Schauspielhaus Berlin and in Frankfurt.
She also performed as a guest with the Meiningen Court Theatre group, going on tours to St. Petersburg and London. She performed with Josef Kainz at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin in 1883.
Haverrland received accolades for her portrayals of Medea, Sappho, Iphigenia, and Antigone. She performed as the lead in Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler in New York City in 1892, the play’s first German production in the United States.
She maintained relationships with other artists of the era, such as Theodor Fontane, who sent Bertha on a postmortem tour to Haverland. Johannes Schilling used the arm of Haverland as a template.
Due to a severe illness, Haverrland had to end her theatrical career in 1897. She then relocated to Dresden and passed away in Blasewitz in 1908. Her obituaries lauded her as a giving artist who was past her prime.
