ECG Missing Containers: Authorities Arrest 14 Suspects Amid Intensified Investigations

In a significant development concerning the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), authorities have now arrested 14 individuals. These are made up of three Ghanaian nationals and 11 foreigners identified as Chinese.

Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth behind the missing containers.

The suspects were picked up by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service at Dangfang Company Limited and Ponlok Manufacturing Company Limited, all situated at Shai Hill’s environs, according to Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai.

He further clarified that, these foreign national suspects were granted bail, however their passports were retained in order to prevent them from fleeing the country. Moreover, these arrested suspects had to provide sureties who can further guarantee their availability for the ongoing investigations.

The ECG plays a crucial role in Ghana’s energy sector, and the disappearance of its containers has raised concerns about operational efficiency and accountability within state institutions.
