On April 10, 1960, Ingo Herbert was born in Wolfsburg, Germany. Since 2023, he has represented the Federal Republic of Germany in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as an esteemed diplomat from Germany.
Herbert continued to follow his academic interests in philosophy, theatre studies, and law. He started his professional career working for Berlin Senator for Cultural Affairs Volker Hassemer in 1987 after passing the second state legal examination. Herbert has shown a great enthusiasm for foreign connections and cultural matters throughout his career.
Herbert began working at the Foreign Office in 1989 after entering the higher foreign service preparatory service in 1988. His tenure at the German embassies in Moscow (1991–1993) and Tel Aviv (1993–1996) provided him with priceless expertise.
Herbert then went back to work in his native country until being named the Deputy Head of the German Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2005. He started serving as the Embassy’s Permanent Representative in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2008.
Herbert has held several notable roles during his career, including the German Ambassador to Ivory Coast from 2020 to 2023 and the German Ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2018 to 2020.
