Actress Edith Hancke was born in Berlin-Charlottenburg and rose to prominence in the theater after enrolling in Marlise Ludwig’s acting program at Wilmersdorfer Wilhelmsaue.
In 1948, she started her career and performed as a guest at several theaters, such as the Berliner Komödie, Renaissance Theater, Deutsches Theater, Schlosspark Theater, Schillertheater, and Theater am Kurfürstendamm.
Hancke won multiple Golden Curtain prizes, but her true calling was theater. She also performed in 150 episodes of the well-liked radio entertainment series Pension Spreewitz on RIAS, as well as as a member of the cabaret Die Stachelschweine.
