Charly Hubner’s Biography
Charly Hübner is a renowned German actor who has left his mark in both the theatre and film industries.
Hübner was born in Neustrelitz on December 4, 1972, and grew up in Feldberg, a tiny town in the Neustrelitz area, as the son of innkeepers Johannes and Margitta Hübner. His father was not just an innkeeper, but also a hotelier, municipal councillor, and deputy mayor, exposing Hübner to community involvement and a sense of responsibility from a young age.
Hübner’s love of performing was clear from a young age, as he began his acting career in an amateur theatre. After graduating from Carolinum Neustrelitz in 1991, he set off on a trip to follow his aspirations at the famed Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin.
During his studies, he met theatre directors Tom Kühnel and Robert Schuster, with whom he worked on several projects for theatres such as the Maxim Gorki Theatre, the Schaubühne in Berlin, and the Schauspielhaus and TAT in Frankfurt am Main.
Hübner had the opportunity to collaborate with notable directors such as Amélie Niermeyer, Peter Eschberg, Hans Hollmann, and Christian Tschirner between 1996 and 2002.
Hübner returned to the theatre scene in 2008, after a break, at the Schauspielhaus Zurich. In 2011, he appeared on the stage of the Schauspiel Köln, directed by Karin Beier. In 2013, he accompanied Beier to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, demonstrating his adaptability and commitment to his trade.
While Hübner began his career in theatre, he moved to film in 2003, performing in a number of supporting roles. He rose to prominence for his portrayal of ‘small people’ or ‘good buddy’ characters. He appeared in 17 film projects in 2005 alone, quickly establishing himself as a great performer.

Hübner’s on-screen success continued with his portrayal as Alexander Bukow in the Rostock-set police drama Polizeiruf 110, in which he co-starred in with Anneke Kim Sarnau. In 2012, the dynamic combination was nominated for the Grimme-Preis (German TV Award).
