Lucas Luhr, a well-known racing figure, was born in Mülheim-Kärlich, Germany, on July 22, 1979. He is most well-known for his extraordinary career as a racing driver, with an emphasis on sports car racing in particular.
Career
Luhr got his start in racing in 1989 when he began taking part in kart races. Through the first years of the 1990s, he rose quickly through the ranks while also taking home several local and national karting championships. The CRG company saw his talent and employed him as a factory driver in 1994. His association with this organization catalyzed the start of his professional career, which saw him go on to win the European Karting Championship and place an astonishing fourth in the Karting World Championship.
Luhr’s promotion to vice-champion of the German Formula Ford championship in 1996 marked the change from karts to automobiles. His career in auto racing officially began at that point. As he competed in the German Formula Three Championship in 1997 and 1998, he continued to excel, culminating in a victory in the season-opening at the Hockenheimring in 1998.
Lucas Luhr’s career received a significant leap in 1999 when he joined the Porsche factory squad. He competed for the UPS Junior Team and won the 1999 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland championship, illustrating the mutually beneficial nature of the partnership. He changed to the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) the following year, working with Dirk Müller and operating a Porsche 911 GT3-R for Dick Barbour Racing. This was the first of many victories.
During his debut season in the ALMS, Luhr won events such as the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1000 km Nürburgring, and the Race of 1000 Years in Adelaide. He also took home the ALMS GT class championship, which is an incredible feat for a rookie.
By joining the factory Audi team, Lucas Luhr began a new phase of his racing career in 2007. He raced an Audi A4 DTM for Audi Sport Team Rosberg in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series. He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans while operating an LMP1 class R10 TDI.
Luhr and co-driver Marco Werner participated in the American Le Mans Series the next year in an Audi R10. The duo’s outstanding performance resulted in eight class triumphs and six overall victories, which enabled them to win the LMP1 class drivers’ title.
In 2012, Lucas Luhr focused on competing in the American Le Mans Series with Muscle Milk Motorsports. By winning the LMP1 title, he demonstrated his skill and endurance. Additionally, he raced for Starworks Motorsport in the Rolex Sports Car Series, where he took first place.
