Peter Härtling was a German writer, poet, publisher and journalist. He was born on November 13, 1933. Even though he was born in Chemnitz, he spent his childhood days in Hartmannsdorf, Mittweida. During World War II, Peter Härtling and his family relocated to the German-occupied town of Olomouc in Moravia.
Peter Härtling’s father was captured by the Russians. Unfortunately, he died in June 1945 at the prisoner-of-war camp in Dollersheim. When the war ended, he stayed in Nürtingen, Baden-Württemberg. His mother committed suicide in October 1946.
Concerning education, Peter Härtling studied under HAP Grieshaber at the Bernsteinschule art school. After completion, he worked as a journalist. Peter Härtling published his first collection of poetry in 1953 and between 1967 and 1973, he was the managing director of the German publishing house S. Fischer Verlag, located in Frankfurt.
He hosted the annual Frankfurter Poetik-Vorlesungen, a lecture series, in which a prominent writer discourses on topics pertaining to their work. Peter Härtling also worked as an editor of the magazine Der Monat and as the president of the Hölderlin society.

Peter Härtling died on July 10, 2017. He died after suffering a heart attack
Radio And Awards
Peter Härtling was the host of Literatur im Kreuzverhör, a radio show on the cultural radio station of Hessischer Rundfunk. He received so many awards when he was alive and some of the awards are the 1964: German Critics’ Prize for Niembsch, the 1965: Lower Saxony Literature Prize for Niembsch, the 1966: Honorary gift from the cultural group in the Federal Association of German Industry for Niembsch. Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger for the French edition of Niembsch, 1971: Gerhart Hauptmann prize of the Freie Volksbühne Berlin for Gilles, 1974: Schubart Literature Prize, 1976: German Youth Literature Prize (Children’s Book) for Grandma ., 1977: City clerk of Bergen and 1978: Wilhelmine Lübke Prize.
