Jack Cassidy was an American actor, singer and theater director. He was born on March 5, 1927. Jack Cassidy was quite popular for his works so far as theater, television and films are concerned.
It is refreshing to note he was nominated several times for the Tony Award and he won one. He is also the proud recipient of a Grammy Award that was based on his contribution to the Broadway production of the musical titled She Loves Me.
Jack Cassidy was nominated two times for Primetime Emmy Awards. Teen idols, David Cassidy and Shaun Cassidy are his children. Born in New York City, he was the son of Charlotte and William Cassidy.
He had four siblings and he was the youngest of his siblings. Jack Cassidy’s father worked as an engineer at the Long Island Rail Road.
Jack Cassidy Cause of Death
Early in the morning on December 12, 1976, Jack lit a cigarette but slept off on a couch. He dropped the cigarette onto the couch which caught fire throughout the apartment and building.
Unfortunately, the body of Jack Cassidy was found among the ashes. He was cremated and scattered into the Pacific Ocean.
Marriage
Jack Cassidy’s first marriage was to actress Evelyn Ward. They got married in 1948 and had a son called David. They later divorced in 1956 after which Jack Cassidy married singer and actress, Shirley Jones.
They gave birth to children, Shaun, Patrick and Ryan.
At a point in time, Jack Cassidy started acting strangely. He was once seen watering his lawn in the middle of the afternoon naked.
At another time, he was seen sitting naked in a corner of his house reading a book. Jack Cassidy was in December 1974, hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for 48 hours.
That was when his second wife found out that Jack Cassidy had been on e diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Son of Jack Cassidy confirmed that his father was bisexual and he and his siblings got to know this after their father had died.
