Early Life and Education
Cory Trépanier’s journey began in Windsor, Ontario. However, his family’s frequent moves led him to grow up in various locations throughout Ontario and Quebec. After graduating from Humberview Secondary School in Bolton, Ontario, Trépanier embarked on his artistic education by enrolling in a four-year illustration program at Sheridan College. This formative period laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the world of art.
Career
The early stages of Cory Trépanier’s career were marked by his work as a freelance illustrator. He lent his artistic talents to numerous advertising agencies, magazines, and government organizations, including the National Capital Commission, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. During this period, he created captivating paintings that caught the eye and imagination of many.
In 1997, Cory Trépanier’s artistic journey took a significant turn as he shifted his focus from commercial illustration to the world of fine art. He made it his mission to capture the stunning landscapes of Canada in the rich medium of oil painting. This transition marked the beginning of an extraordinary artistic career that would inspire countless individuals.
In 2001, Trépanier initiated the “Coast To Canvas Project,” a bold endeavor that saw him venturing to the coasts of Ontario’s Lake Superior and Georgian Bay with his family in tow. Over the course of almost a month in each season, he painted, filmed, canoed, hiked, and camped in this beautiful region, which was then known as the Heritage Coast. This incredible experience led to the creation of over thirty oil paintings and a one-hour documentary titled “A Painter’s Odyssey,” a collaborative effort with his wife, Janet.
In 2006, Cory Trépanier embarked on his ambitious “Into The Arctic Project: An Artist’s Journey to the North.” This multi-year undertaking involved three extensive painting and filming expeditions to the remote Canadian Arctic. During these journeys, he crafted an unprecedented collection of more than fifty original oil paintings that vividly portrayed the Arctic’s pristine landscapes. Among these magnificent works was “Great Glacier,” a massive canvas measuring 15 feet in width and 5.5 feet in height, which remains one of the largest oil paintings ever created in the Canadian Arctic.
