Annibali established herself as a prominent lawyer after graduating from the University of Urbino with a law degree. Her life changed forever on April 16, 2013, when two men sent by her former boyfriend, Luca Varani, assaulted her with acid, disfiguring her face and shattering her life. This horrible crime was an attempt to silence her and erase her identity.
Instead of giving in to despair, Annibali found the will to fight for justice and reclaim control of her life. Varani was sentenced to 20 years in jail for attempted murder and stalking in a historic decision, while the attackers were condemned to 12 years. Many victims of domestic violence were inspired by Annibali’s fortitude and determination throughout the court procedure.
