Early Life
On January 24, 1977, Michelle Hunziker was born in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland in Sorengo, Lugano. Her father Rudolf, a Swiss-German speaker who spoke Dutch and German, was a painter who managed hotels. Her mother Ineke is Dutch. The family moved to Ostermundigen, a Bern neighborhood in Switzerland’s German-speaking zone, in 1983.
In Ostermundigen, Hunziker attended primary school. She entered the world of fashion modeling after relocating to Milan with her mother, owing to a chance presented by the agency Riccardo Gay. She modeled for well-known companies at the age of 17 including Armani, Rocco Barocco, La Perla, Colmar, Fuerte Ventura, Lovable, and Swish.
Career
Michelle Hunziker’s career took a major leap when she was discovered by an Italian TV producer during her engagement to the renowned singer Eros Ramazzotti. She made her debut in 1996 as a television host when she and Paolo Bonolis hosted the program “I Cervelloni” on Rai Uno. In the summer, she and Gabibbo co-hosted the well-liked comic program “Paperissima Sprint” on Canale 5.
As a result of her rising fame, she was appointed host of Italia 1’s “Colpo di Fulmine” in 1997. Under the direction of her choreographer, Susanna Beltrami, Hunziker also sought additional professional training at the Music Art & Show Academy in Milan.
She co-hosted “Michael Jackson & Friends” in Munich and the “Goldene Kamera” awards presentation in Germany with Thomas Gottschalk. When she eventually settled back in Italy, she began hosting programs including “Donna sotto le stelle,” “Piazza di Spagna,” and “Tacchi a spillo.” She co-hosted “Deutschland Sucht den Superstar,” the German adaptation of the well-known British TV program “Pop Idol,” with Carsten Spengemann from 2002 to 2004.
She and Pippo Baudo co-hosted the Festival di Sanremo, Italy’s renowned music competition, in 2007. She also came back to co-host “Paperissima” with Gerry Scotti and “Striscia la notizia” with Ezio Greggio.
Hunziker joined Claudio Baglioni and Pierfrancesco Favino as hosts of the Sanremo Music Festival on Rai 1 in 2018. She continues to feature in numerous media projects, even working on a video in 2020 with well-known musicians.
