Biography
Mark Kerr is an American former wrestler and mixed martial artist. He was born on. December 21, 1968, in Toledo, Ohio.
Kerr started wrestling in Bettendorf, Iowa, in 1983 as a freshman at Bettendorf High School. He shared the wrestling room with Pat Miletich, who would go on to become the UFC champion, who was a senior at the time.
Kerr relocated to Toledo, Ohio, with his family after his freshman year at Bettendorf, where he excelled as a high school state champion for Toledo Waite.
Kerr was seventh at the 1993 World Championships and won the USA World Team Trials in 1993 and 1994. He did not receive a medal in the World Championships, but he did win gold at the 1994 World Cup in Edmonton and the USA Senior Freestyle Championship. At the 1995 Pan American Games, Kerr took home the silver medal in freestyle.
Kerr faced UFC veteran Paul Varelans in his MMA debut at WVC 3. In the two minutes that the fight lasted, Kerr slammed Varelans with a takedown, mounting him and stopping him with punches and knee strikes. Mustafa Al Turk and Kerr squared off at Cage Rage 20: ‘Born 2 Fight’ on February 11, 2007.
Kerr was mounted, shocked by a barrage of blows, and submitted in the first round after losing his feet following an attempted roundhouse kick.
The Global Fighting Championships’ inaugural bout between Kerr and Sean O’Haire was scheduled for August 17 at the Mohegan Sun Arena; however, it was cancelled because of Kerr’s high blood pressure, and his license was suspended indefinitely.
Kerr and fellow wrestler Muhammad Lawal squared off at an M-1 Global event on August 28, 2009. After he was obviously unable to defend himself, Kerr was knocked down and then beaten into unconsciousness in under twenty-five seconds, taking many strikes to the head.
