In a shocking incident that has drawn international attention, a 20-year-old Ghanaian-British student based in the UK was picked up at Lagos Airport while attempting to smuggle 9.4 kilograms of cocaine concealed in his suitcases. This alarming incident occurred on April 3, 2025, when Parker arrived on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Bangkok, Thailand.
Reports received by Ghana Insider indicate that, authorities at the airport discovered the narcotics during a routine security check. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), confirmed this by indicating that Parker was taken into custody during routine passenger clearance. He had reportedly hidden 36 parcels of the illicit substance inside a large travel bag.
During initial questioning, Parker identified himself as a Computer Science student at the University of East London and stated that he had recently traveled from London to Bangkok, where he allegedly acquired the drugs for delivery in Nigeria.

In a related incident, NDLEA officers also picked up a 75-year-old grandfather in Abia State for possessing a smaller quantity of cannabis, highlighting the wide-ranging impact of drug smuggling across demographics.
