The conflict erupted when cattle from a Fulani-owned ranch allegedly damaged a green pepper farm in the area. In retaliation, farm workers attacked the Fulani settlement, leading to the destruction of homes and personal belongings.
As reported by citinewsroom, one herdsman sustained injuries during the assault and is currently receiving treatment at Otoo Memorial Hospital in Winneba. Sheifu Ibrahim, one of the affected individuals, expressed deep concern over the attack, stating that women and children in the Fulani community are now living in fear and panic. He recalled that the attack took place early Sunday morning, March 30, while he was grazing his animals. Upon hearing commotion from the Fulani settlement, he rushed back to find six houses engulfed in flames.
The timely intervention of neighbors prevented further casualties. Ibrahim’s mother, who was asleep during the attack, sustained minor injuries but was rescued before the fire spread further. He claimed that the attackers, numbering six and armed with gallons of petrol, showed no mercy despite desperate pleas for them to stop.
As confirmed by Ghanainsider, authorities have since arrested the six suspects involved in the attack. The Effutu Municipal Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the Fulani community is calling for justice and compensation for their losses, urging authorities to promote peaceful conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence.
