Bob Ross was an American painter, television host and art instructor. Bob Ross was born on October 29, 1942, and he is noted to be the creator, host and the brain behind The Joy of Painting.

The Joy of Painting is an instructional television program that aired between 1983 and 1994 on several channels all over the world.

Bob Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida and his parents are Jack and Ollie Ross. Jack was a carpenter and Ollie was a waitress. During the childhood days of Bob Ross, he had so much love for injured animals and would care for them.

He had a half-brother called Jim. Concerning education, Bob Ross is reported to have dropped out of high school when he was in the 9th grade. After dropping out of school, he worked with his dad as a carpenter.

However, he lost part of his left index finger. This did not affect his ability to paint.

Bob Ross was so much into cigarette smoking and due to that, he had so many health issues. He died on July 4, 1995, at the age of 52. The cause of his death was complications from lymphoma and he died in Orlando, Florida. He was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Florida. Even though he had lymphoma, Bob Ross kept it away from the general public.

Military Service

In 1961 when Bob Ross was just 18 years old, he joined the United States Air Force. He was then serving as a medical records technician but with time, he was able to rise through the various ranks to become master sergeant.

Bob Ross served as the first sergeant of the clinic at Eielsom Air Force Base in Alaska. During daily work breaks, Bob Ross gradually developed and worked on his quick painting technique.

Marriage

Bob Ross had two children out of three marriages. One of the children was Robert Stephen Ross whose mother was Vivian Ridge, his first wife. The other child was given birth to when he was a teenager.

With time the marriage between Bob Ross and Vivian Ridge broke down and they divorced in 1977. Bob Ross was not able to have any children with his second wife; Jane. Jane died of cancer in 1995.

Bob Ross got married to Lynda Brown in 1995.
