Biography
Cornelia Poletto is one of Germany’s most prominent chefs, as well as a successful entrepreneur, television presenter, and author. He was born on August 9, 1971, in Hamburg as Cornelia Diedrich.
She attended the Michaels-Gymnasium in Paderborn before going to Bavaria to study hotel management. Her cooking career started in earnest when she worked as a trainee in a Michelin-starred kitchen in Aschau im Chiemgau under the renowned Heinz Winkler.
Cornelia went back to Hamburg in 1995 to work as a sous chef for Anna Sgroi at the famed Anna e Sebastiano restaurant. She met Remigio Poletto, her future husband and business partner, there.
Poletto co-founded her first eatery, Poletto, in Hamburg-Eppendorf in the year 2000. The restaurant’s exquisite Mediterranean-inspired food soon won over a devoted customer base. Due to the sale of the land, the restaurant closed in 2010 after a decade of prosperity.
In June 2011, Poletto remained unfazed and established Cornelia Poletto, her eponymous delicatessen and restaurant, a short distance from her original site. Her culinary empire grew in 2013 when she opened Cucina Cornelia Poletto, a hands-on cooking school that hosts monthly “Chef’s Table” evenings and offers themed seminars.
In 2018, Cornelia Poletto opened The Twins by Cornelia Poletto in Shanghai, working with the German cookware business Zwilling, demonstrating her continuous inventiveness. Poletto’s global aspirations are reflected in the 640 m² facility, which has a restaurant, store, and cooking school.
She presented her own culinary program, Poletto’s culinary School, on NDR and SR television from 2007 to 2013. Her appearances on Lanz Kocht, Die Küchenschlacht, and ARD Buffet helped people become familiar with her.
From 2014 to 2015, she was a judge on ZDF’s Topfgeldjäger. From 2015 to 2018, she was a coach and a member of the jury on the competitive culinary show The Taste.
In addition, Poletto hosts the yearly dinner event Cornelia Poletto – Palazzo, which takes place in a mirrored tent in front of Hamburg’s Deichtorhallen. Since its debut in 2014, the event has offered attendees a unique gastronomic experience by fusing fine dining with circus-style entertainment.
Along with her restaurants and television appearances, Poletto has dabbled in product partnerships, such as the Hardys, Cornelia Poletto Edition line of high-end dog food.
