In his recent statement monitored by Ghana Insider, Stan Dogbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Office of the President, mocked members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding their response to the 2024 election loss.
Stan Dogbe’s remarks, shared on Facebook, highlight that NPP members seem to still be grappling with the consequences of their defeat by President John Dramani Mahama.
Stan Dogbe emphasized the emotional struggle of NPP members, stating, “I dey laugh when I meet them and they are crying about the pain of the defeat.” He credited Mahama’s governance as a significant factor in keeping the NPP in opposition for the foreseeable future.
Dogbe’s statements come in the wake of internal discussions within the NPP, especially following comments by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election.

Bawumia lamented the party’s defeat during a recent ‘Thank You Tour,’ attributing the loss to various policies during the administration of former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He noted that the government’s arrogance and disconnect from the struggles of Ghanaians led to widespread dissatisfaction, ultimately driving voters to reject the ruling party in large numbers.
The NPP flagbearer also pointed out that soaring inflation during Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, along with the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), and the unresolved $58 million National Cathedral project, significantly contributed to the party’s declining popularity.
In response, some NPP officials have pushed back against Bawumia’s criticisms, arguing that he is deflecting blame for his own political aspirations. Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a former government spokesperson, condemned Bawumia’s attempts to distance himself from controversial decisions made during his term as Vice President.
Stan Dogbe concluded his remarks by reinforcing that the accomplishments of the Mahama-led administration will keep the NPP sidelined for years to come.
The recent exchanges between the NPP and the NDC portrays the ongoing political rivalry in Ghana. With tensions running high, the predictions for the NPP’s future in opposition indicate a challenging road ahead.
