Reports gathered by Ghana Insider News confirmed that, Armed robbers ambushed travelers on the road from Donkorkrom to Adawso in the Kwahu Afram Plains.

Around 4:00 AM this morning, a gang of approximately eight heavily armed robbers, brandishing AK-47 rifles, stopped a convoy of vehicles making their way to the Afram River crossing. Eyewitness accounts detail as a terrifying scene, where passengers were robbed of unspecified amount of cash, numerous mobile phones, and other valuables.

The assault which occured on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, left numerous victims traumatized, particularly those who struggled to meet the robbers’ demands for money. According to eyewitness reports, a motorcyclist was slashed on the arm by these armed robbers after he attempted to escape the robbery scene.

Residents of the Kwahu Afram Plains, which includes both the North and South Districts, have long endured the threat of highway robberies. These incidents have been exacerbated by poor road conditions and insufficient security measures in the area.

While there was a temporary decline in such crimes following the deployment of the Ghana Police Service’s Anti-Robbery Unit and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams under former Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the recent surge in robberies has heightened fears among residents and travelers alike.

Though Afram Plains is known as the “nation’s food basket,” it faces a downturn in commercial activities due to these criminal acts. Natives are calling for a more robust police presence to ensure their safety on the roads.

The safety of travelers in Afram Plains, especially during festive seasons, seems to hang in the balance as the community grapples with ongoing threats to its security and economic stability.
