Reinhold Würth is a renowned German-Austrian entrepreneur, billionaire, and patron of the arts, best known as the driving force behind the Würth Group. He was born on April 20, 1935, in Öhringen, Germany.
As a child, Reinhold took violin lessons, reflecting a lifelong affinity for the arts. In 1949, at the age of just 14, his father withdrew him from secondary school and took him on as an apprentice and the second employee of the Würth company.
Reinhold was thrown into leadership at the age of 19 after his father died in 1954. He became the legal owner of the business in 1956 when he was 21 years old. With strategic vision and unwavering perseverance, Würth transformed the local company into a global conglomerate over time.
Realizing the constraints of the unstable and fragmented local market, Würth started buying screw makers and growing abroad. The company’s global reach began in 1962 when he founded its first overseas division in the Netherlands.
Reinhold Würth resigned from daily management in 1994 to become Chairman of the Würth Group’s Advisory Board, a post he maintained until 2006. As Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Foundations, the Group’s highest decision-making body, he continued to shape business policy and direction until his retirement on December 31, 2024.
Reinhold Würth is adamant about his political stances. He declared in 2019 that he saw Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as inept and would have wanted Friedrich Merz to be the CDU chairman. He cast his ballot for the Greens in the European elections of 2019.
