NPP Vice Chairmam Alhaji Osman Says He Deliberately Pushed Down TV3’s Microphone

To demonstrate discontent, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, the 3rd National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), publicly pushed a microphone belonging to TV3 to the ground during a press conference held by the party’s Minority in Parliament.

This act, captured on camera, happened to signal the NPP’s deliberate disengagement from what they perceive as a biased relationship with the media outlet.

During the press conference on April 16, 2025, Masawudu’s actions surprised both General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who were present at the event. The tension between the NPP and Media General, which operates TV3, has escalated in recent months. The opposition party accused the channel of undue favoritism towards the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his subsequent interview monitored by Ghana Insider News with Ashh FM, Masawudu fearlessly defended his actions, expressing that he has no regrets. Alhaji Osman also urged Media General to “stay in their corner.”

“It’s not true that my hand accidentally hit the microphone to the floor. I deliberately pushed it down. I was the one who did it because we don’t need them at our programme. Given how unfair they’ve been to us, Media General should stay in their corner and let us handle our own affairs. They shouldn’t attend any of our events”, Alhaji Osman stated.

Moreover, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned that any party member who appear on TV3 or other Media General platforms would face suspension.

“As I speak now, if any communicator from the NPP shows up on their platform, we will suspend that communicator,” Alhaji Osman stated.

In January 2025, NPP announced that it has pulled out from all of Media General’s platforms, including TV3, 3 FM, and Onua FM.

The NPP has outlined numerous grievances towards Media General. A typical one was an incident where a guest made derogatory comments about former President Nana Akufo-Addo, which the host failed to challenge.

NPP claims that, despite various attempts to resolve these issues, no substantial changes have occurred within the station, leading to their withdrawal from all Media General platforms.
