IT Technician Sentenced to Six Months for defrauding an auto mechanic of GH₵53,000.00

In a recent ruling, Gideon Kojo Elliam, a 37-year-old IT technician, was sentenced to six months of hard labor for defrauding an auto mechanic out of GH₵53,000.00. The Kaneshie District Court One delivered the verdict after Elliam admitted to charges of fraud related to a failed supply of an auto diagnostic machine.

The case emerged when Mr. Daniel Odoi Otu, an auto mechanic residing in Kasoa Nyayano, reported to the authorities that Elliam accepted the substantial sum of money in May 2023 under the guise of procuring the equipment. Promising delivery by December 2023, Elliam’s failure to provide the machine led Otu to seek justice after multiple futile attempts to reach Elliam.

During court proceedings, Chief Inspector Achana Apeweh disclosed that Elliam was apprehended at his hideout on April 1, 2025. Upon his arrest, he confessed to utilizing the funds for personal endeavors rather than fulfilling his obligation to Otu. Although Elliam acknowledged taking GH₵37,000, he contested Otu’s total claim of GH₵53,000.

The court not only handed down the sentence but also urged Otu to consider pursuing civil action to reclaim the lost funds after Elliam serves his sentence.
