Ghana Card Collection for 2023 Applicants Begins April 7, NIA Announces

The National Identification Authority (NIA) of Ghana has announced that individuals who applied for the Ghana Card in 2023 will be able to collect their cards starting April 7, 2024. This initiative aims to streamline the identification process and ensure that all citizens have access to this essential document.

In a communique monitored by Ghana Insider, the NIA communicated that from April 7, all applicants who requested their National Identification Cards, whether for the first issuance, replacements, or updates since June 2023, can visit their respective District Offices to collect their cards. This initiative will not only mitigate delays but also aid in a smoother registration for those who are yet to obtain their Ghana Cards.

Yayra Koku, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NIA, confirmed that designated District Offices have been stocked with sufficient blank cards to fulfill both new applications and backlogged requests at no cost. However, individuals needing card replacements will incur a fee of one hundred and twenty five Ghanaian cedis (GH¢125), while updates to personal records will cost sixty Ghanaian cedis (GH¢60), as sighted by Ghana Insider.

For those aged 15 and above who have yet to register for the Ghana Card, the NIA encourages them to visit any District Office in the Greater Accra Region starting April 7. In making this announcement, the NIA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to the essential identification document.

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the NIA has also urged the public to report any staff demanding fees for these services, as the issuance of the Ghana Card should be free of charge.

The Ghana Card serves as a vital tool for various services, including banking, healthcare, voting, among others, making it crucial for citizens to obtain their cards promptly.
