Ablakwa Rejects Rumors About Vice President’s Health as “Vicious Propaganda”

In a strong response to circulating rumors regarding the health of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged the public to dismiss these claims as unfounded and malicious. Speaking at a gathering of Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, Ablakwa called the rumors “vicious” and “unGhanaian,” aiming to reassure citizens that the Vice President is in good health.

Ablakwa emphasized that the Vice President is recovering well and has expressed gratitude for the public’s prayers. He stated, “I want to assure you that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers have really helped.” His reassurances came in light of online speculation suggesting her death due to an illness, which he firmly debunked.

Previously, reports indicated that the Vice President had fallen ill on March 28, 2025, following a busy work schedule. She had been undergoing treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). A statement from Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that she had received medical advice to seek treatment abroad, heightening concerns among the public.

Ablakwa urged Ghanaians to remain steadfast and ignore the “evil propaganda” that has circulated on social media. He reiterated that there is no cause for alarm, as the Vice President is soon expected to return to her official duties.

Ablakwa’s firm cancellation of the rumors serves as a reminder of the need for responsible communication, especially in an age dominated by social media. Accurate information can help prevent unnecessary panic and maintain public trust in leadership.
