President Mahama Initiates Investigation into Suspicious Flights Linked to Alleged Drug Trafficking

In a decisive move to tackle potential illicit activities, President John Mahama has ordered a comprehensive investigation into two aircraft that recently landed in Ghana and later departed for Gran Canaria, Spain.

President stipulated this directive in order to address concerns voiced by the Minority in Parliament regarding the legitimacy of these flights. The issue came to light after Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Minority’s Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, highlighted suspicions surrounding an air ambulance and a private jet.

The air ambulance, identified as Air MED flight L823 AM, was in Ghana on March 20 and notably remained for five days without anybody onboard. Meanwhile, a private jet, Antonov 12B, entered Ghana and departed on the same day as the air ambulance, amplifying fears of potential drug trafficking or money laundering operations.

In a tweet, President Mahama remarked on the seriousness of the allegations, stating, “This matter requires urgent clarification.” He called upon the National Security and relevant agencies to collaborate with Parliament to gather vital information necessary for the investigation, emphasizing the importance of transparency in ensuring national security.

The President underscored that Ghana’s airspace must not be compromised by criminal activities, asserting, “We must not allow Ghana’s airspace to be exploited for illicit activities. This investigation will ensure we uphold the integrity of our aviation sector.”

The Ministry of National Security is expected to provide a detailed report on the findings of the investigation, which aims to expose any wrongdoing associated with the flights to the general public, especially Ghanaians.
