Biography
Knut Reinhardt is a former German footballer who was born on April 27, 1968 in Hilden, Germany. He began his football career with TuS 05 Quettingen before joining Bayer 04 Leverkusen as a young player. On April 19, 1986, he made his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen against Bayern Munich, aged only 17. Shortly thereafter, he became the German U19 champion.
Reinhardt soon established himself as a significant member of Bayer Leverkusen, becoming a regular starter in 1987/88. His skills won him a spot on many German national young teams, and he was instrumental in Germany’s run to the 1987 FIFA U-20 World Cup final. In 1988, he won the UEFA Cup with Bayer Leverkusen.
Reinhardt moved to Borussia Dortmund in 1991, where he achieved great success, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 1995 and 1996, and helping Dortmund win the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup in 1997.
He made 50 appearances in European competitions while at Dortmund, but as playing time decreased, he moved to 1. FC Nürnberg in 1999. He retired from professional football in 2000 after battling injuries and undergoing seven knee surgeries. Reinhardt made his debut for the German national team in 1988 but failed to establish himself as a regular, earning seven caps for the national team between 1988 and 1992.
Reinhardt continued his involvement in football as a young coach after retiring. He started working with TSC Eintracht Dortmund’s E-youth squad in the 2010–11 season. Later, in the 2012–13 season, he served as coach of Hombrucher SV’s U-12/DII squad.
He took a different professional path in teaching while coaching. He began his career as an office clerk before enrolling at the University of Dortmund to study education. He started teaching on February 1, 2009, at Kleine Kielstraße Elementary School in Dortmund, following the completion of his coursework and practical training. He is a secondary school teacher with a focus on sports and mathematics as of 2024.
