Siegfried “Sigi” Renz was a German racing cyclist who achieved notable success in both track cycling and one-day road races during the 1960s and 1970s.
Sigi was born on August 2, 1938, in Germany. He was successful in the Six-Days-Races in Munich where he later became secretary.
Career
Renz became a formidable road racer, especially in one-day competitions. In 1963, he secured his position as one of the finest cyclists in the nation by winning the German National Road Race Championship, which was his greatest accomplishment.
Due to his propensity to execute well under duress, he was selected to compete three times in the Road World Championships.
He was given the chance to participate in the Tour de France in 1961, the most prestigious race in professional cycling, as a result of his impressive road results.
But in spite of his talent and willpower, he failed to finish the demanding three-week race. This experience demonstrated his commitment to competing at the top level of the sport, even though he never made it back to the Tour.
During Renz’s time, six-day races were one of the most difficult and well-liked competitions in professional track cycling. In these events, riders had to switch places in a never-ending, fast-paced contest of stamina, strategy, and cooperation.

Renz was always eager to impart his knowledge and experiences to future generations, and his business developed into a gathering place for bike aficionados.

Sigi passed away from the effects of cancer on February 1, 2025, at the age of 86, following a five-hour emergency operation.
