Annette Gunther was born on August 18, 1963, and without a doubt, she can be described as a German diplomat. Currently, Annette Gunther serves as the Ambassador of Germany to Nigeria and she has been the Ambassador since 2022. She attended the Humboldt University in Berlin between 1982 and 1997.
While at the university, she read English and Iranian studies. Between 1985 and 1986, she was at the Tajik National University in Dushanbe. She worked as a research assistant at the Humboldt University from 1987 to 1991. She is also known to have worked as an interpreter at the foreign trade mission in Tehran.
Annette Gunther served in the cultural department of the Foreign Office and then she was appointed to work at the German embassy in New Zealand from 1994 to 1997. She also worked at the embassy in Uzbekistan from 1997 to 2001.She worked in the Afghanistan special staff at the Foreign Office in Berlin and in 2003, she was appointed political advisor to the commander of ISAF forces in Kabul.
She was also with the Federal Academy for Security Policy between 2004 and 2006. Over the years , she has also worked in the political department as well as the cultural department of the Foreign office. She was once Ambassador of Germany to Botswana and between 2015 and 2017, she was the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid as well as Commissioner for Flight and Migration at the Federal Foreign Office. She was also once the Ambassador of Germany to Kenya.
