German diplomat Bettina Cadenbach was born in Osnabrück on July 19, 1960. As of 2024, she holds the position of German ambassador to Brazil. Before that, she served as Germany’s ambassador to Georgia from 2015 to 2016.
Between 1979 and 1986, Cadenbach completed her studies in political science, German studies, and Romance languages at several prestigious universities, including Bonn, Hamburg, and Hanover.
She entered the journalism field after graduating from college. Cadenbach had significant expertise in the field while employed in the city of Osnabrück’s cultural office from 1988 until 1992.
She began working for the Federal Republic of Germany as a diplomat in 1992. Following her training at the Bonn-Ippendorf diplomatic school, Cadenbach worked as a protocol and policy officer in the German Embassy in Ankara from 1994 until 1997.
She then worked at the Foreign Office headquarters as a consultant for European defence and security policy until 2000.
Working at the German Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2000 to 2004 allowed Cadenbach to continue her diplomatic career. Later, from 2004 to 2006, she served as the German Embassy in Tallinn’s Permanent Representative of the Ambassador.
She went back to the Foreign Office’s Berlin headquarters in 2006, where she led Günter Gloser’s office as the Minister of State for Europe until 2009.
Cadenbach demonstrated her skills as the Permanent Representative of the Ambassador at the German Embassy in Tehran from 2009 to 2012. She also led the Foreign Office’s EU Common Security and Defence Policy Department from 2012 until 2015.
