He made his professional debut in 1966 and participated in a number of competitions, including the 1970 FIFA World Cup, leading the Romanian team.

He was crucial to the team’s success and even spent his own money to purchase the team’s blue gear for a game against Brazil because the Romanian Football Federation only issued yellow uniforms, which contrasted with Brazil’s yellow kits.

Lucescu has had an equally impressive coaching career. In Romania, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia, he has coached a variety of teams.

His most notable assignment was with Shakhtar Donetsk when he established himself as the group’s most successful coach.

Lucescu has won championships with Dinamo București, Rapid București, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Dynamo Kyiv in addition to his accomplishments with Shakhtar Donetsk.

He has received multiple Coach of the Year honours in Romania and Ukraine, making him a highly renowned coach.

He was honoured as Romania’s Manager of the Decade in 2013, and in 2015, he became the fifth coach to oversee 100 UEFA Champions League games.

It is impossible to dispute Mircea Lucescu’s influence on Romanian and world football. His legacy as one of the most celebrated and significant people in the sport has been solidified by his accomplishments as a player and coach.
