A member of the Minority caucus; thus the opposition NDC and Mp for the Krowor Constituency in The Greater Accra Region; Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has signalled the ruling government not to attempt any pay cut of the members of the minority caucus.
During an interview on Accra Fm’s Mid-day news, she revealed that the government as part of it’s measures to salvage the country from economic crisis can cut down salaries of NPP Mps because they receive huge sums of monies as salaries. She reiterated that NPP Mps are the ones in charge of government companies and businesses and hence a pay cut would be meagre. However, she revealed members of the minority caucus receive salaries which are not even enough for their projects and expenditure.
“We cannot use our meagre salaries to support your profligate expenditures”, she told the government, arguing: “How does this government expect us to use our alreadydelayed salaries to support their lavish expenditures?”
“If the government cares to know, we are using our meagre monthly delayed salaries to work in our various constituencies and to see to the needs of our constituents”, she added.
She therefore requested the majority to accept a pay cut when proposed by the government but insisted that the minority would not join hands with the government in that development.
