Willi Heeks’ Biography
Willi Heeks, who was born in Moorlage, Germany, rose to prominence after competing in Formula 2 AFM 49-2 events. This car, originally designed for Emil Vorster, has been updated to Formula 2 specifications with a 2-litre BMW engine.
In 1950, Heeks won the Maipokalrennen at Hockenheim and Dessau with the AFM 49-2. Following his accomplishment, he had a new AFM 50-8 made with spare parts from his old vehicle. In the 1951 season, Heeks finished third at the Nurburgring in the Eifelrennen.
Heeks competed in the 1952 German Grand Prix with an AFM-BMW and finished ninth. Unfortunately, his race ended early on lap seven.
He also competed in races outside of Germany, placing second at the Sachsenring and fourth at the Circuit de Cadours in France. He placed sixth in the West German Championship.
By 1953, the AFM vehicle was no longer competitive, so Heeks joined the Veritas team. Despite multiple retirements, he made an impression in the German Grand Prix when his Veritas Meteor led Rosier’s Ferrari before suffering mechanical problems on lap 8.
Heeks also competed in the GP des Frontiรจres in Chimay, but his race ended in retirement.
In later years, Heeks raced a Mercedes 220S alongside Erwin Bauer in the Nurburgring 1000 Km in 1956 and a Porsche 356 S75 in the Internationales Solitude-Rennen at Solitude in 1962.
