Alessandro Costacurta is best remembered for his twenty-year career at AC Milan when he was part of one of the strongest defences in Serie A and Europe with Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini, and Mauro Tassotti.
Costacurta was a centre defender and a leading exponent of the position throughout his career, collecting various titles and medals.
Costacurta, who was born in Italy, joined the AC Milan junior system and made his professional debut in the 1986–87 season. He had a brief loan spell in Serie C1 with Monza before returning to Milan the following year.
Costacurta made his breakthrough with manager Arrigo Sacchi, winning his first Serie A title in 1987–88 and his first European Cup in 1988–89.
