Ronald Wayne Van Zant, born on January 15, 1948, and passed away on October 20, 1977, was a highly influential American singer and the original lead vocalist of the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.

He was renowned for his strong vocal range as well as for his abilities as the band’s major lyricist and one of its founding members.

Parents Lacy Austin and Marion Virginia Van Zant reared Van Zant in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was born and raised.
