Early Life and Education
Valeria was raised in a politically engaged family. Her father, Vincenzo Sudano, is a former Christian Democracy municipal councilor and CISL unionist. Her father was a state assessor for school construction in 1999–2000 after serving from 1985–1992. Notably, her uncle Domenico Sudano served as a national legislator for the Christian Democratic Center and then the Union of the Center during the XIV and XVI legislatures.
Valeria pursued her education in law at the University of Catania and graduated to become a civil lawyer, specializing in corporate, banking, commercial, and bankruptcy law since 2007.
Career
In 1990, Valeria joined the Christian Democracy (DC), marking the beginning of her political path. She sided with Pier Ferdinando Casini’s Christian Democratic Center following the breakup of DC in 1994. She kept up her political activity as the party changed to become the Union of the Centre. She competed as a councilor in the 2008 Catania municipal elections, supporting Raffaele Stancanelli, a center-right candidate for mayor, and won a seat with 946 choices.
Valeria took part in the 2010 Union of the Center faction split, which was headed by Francesco Saverio Romano and produced “Popolari per l’Italia di Domani” (PID). In the Catania city council, she rose to the position of PID leader.

In February 2015, Articolo 4 merged into the Democratic Party (PD), and Valeria joined the faction associated with Matteo Renzi.
Valeria was elected to the PD Senate in the 2018 general elections. Throughout the XVIII legislative term, she worked in several legislative commissions.
However, Valeria declared her resignation from the PD and joined Italia Viva, a party created by Matteo Renzi in 2019, when the group of followers of Renzi split. Unexpectedly, she formally joined Matteo Salvini’s Lega party parliamentary group on August 5, 2021.
In the 2022 early elections, Valeria Sudano contested and won a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for the Lega party, both in the uninominal constituency and in several plurinominal constituencies. She is currently a member of parliamentary commissions focusing on justice, anti-mafia efforts, and addressing disadvantages arising from insularity during the XIX legislative term.
