Top Bookshops in Accra

A book can be described as a written or printed work made up of pages that have been combined or put together with covers to enclose it. Books are good sources of information to the general public and fall into different categories. Depending on what kind of information you are looking for, you can make a choice.

There are many bookshops found in this country with a variety of books in stock, however this article will talk about a few top ones located in Accra.

EPP BOOKS SERVICES

EPP books is a well known name in the book industry. It came into existence in February, 1991 but started work on 28th July , 1991. It was founded by Gibrine Adam who is the author of a series of Accounting and Finance books under the series name “Essenco Professional Publications”.  EPP started as a small venture but today, it is one of the most popular bookshops in Accra, with about fifteen bookshops in Ghana. Their services go beyond the shores of Ghana. Some of the countries they operate in are : Benin, Nigeria and Seirra Leone.

EPP Books Services deals in a variety of books from school books used by children to secondary and university level textbooks, books on development, children’s readers, storybooks for both children and adults as well as books that cover different topics relating to normal living. The company offers large scale supply of books as well as direct sales to buyers in small quantities that is; wholesale and retail.

This company also has publications unique to them, which are now being used at Primary, Junior High and Senior High levels of education. They are committed to satisfying the needs of their customers.

EPP Books work from Mondays  to Fridays from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from

 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. They are closed on Sundays.

CHALLENGE BOOKSHOP

Challenge Bookshop has been in existence from 1956 and has since been a reputable name in the book industry. They are involved in the supply of Christian books. Challenge believes in spreading God’s Word through the sale of Christian books and resources. Aside books, they also have DVDs, video and audio cassettes.

They have branches at Adenta, Madina,Tema and Kokomlemle,Opposite ATTC.

Challenge Bookshop opens from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30pm and on Saturdays from 8:30am to 2:00pm.

METHODIST BOOK DEPOT

The Methodist Book Depot Limited (MBDL) was founded in 1881 by Rev. John Millum. It began as a small book room in Cape Coast. The aim for its creation was to provide educational materials like Christian Literature among others for the church as well as the general public.

The following are the mission of Methodist Book Depot :

“To contribute to the religious, cultural, social and economic life of the people of Ghana in such a manner as to be in furtherance of the objects of the Methodist Church of Ghana”;

“To carry on business as proprietors and publishers of newspapers, journals … books and other literary works”.

“To carry on the business of stationers, printers, manufacturers and dealers of railway, engineers, cabinets makers”.

This bookshop is found at GIMPA and Silverbird lifestyle Store which  managed by  SyTris Book service. They have a range of literature, biographies and many other kinds of books from parts of the world. They order and make deliver books to organizations as well.

VIDYA BOOKSHOP

This bookshop is situated on the 18th Lane Oxford Street close to the Ivory Coast Embassy, Vidya Bookshop provides  a variety of books from action , adventure , romance , fiction and many more. They treat their customers well.
