Thorsten Hutter is a German diplomat who was born on July 23, 1960. Thorsten Hutter has been serving as the head of department for East Africa and Horn of Africa at the Federal Foreign Office since August 2020. Before assuming that role, Thorsten Hutter was between August 2016 and August 2020, the ambassador to Zimbabwe.
Thorsten Hutter is currently the ambassador of Germany and was appointed on October 19, 2023. He had since July 2023 already taken over the management of the embassy in Namibia.Thorsten Hutter was trained to be a foreign trade clerk between 1978 and 1980. He studied American studies and Political Science.
It must also be noted that he participated in the Congressional Fellowship Program in Washington DC in 1988. He then received his doctorate in Tubingen.
He joined the foreign service in 1990 and then served in the North America Department of the Foreign Office between 1991 and 1992.
Subsequently, Thorsten Hutter served in the embassy at Washington till 1995 and then between 1995 and 1997, he worked at the embassy in Seoul.
He became part of the department for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova in 1997 at the Foreign office. It must be stated that between 2000 and 2003, Thorsten Hutter worked at the Kenya embassy and then became the deputy head of the Iraq Special Staff at the Federal Foreign office in 2003.
He has also worked at the embassy in Moscow and as a matter of fact, Thorsten Hutter is one diplomat who has a rich experience so far foreign service is concerned.
