Thomas Jefferson was an American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, philosopher, architect and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
He became the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809 where he was succeeded by another Founding Father, James Madison.
Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 to Peter Jefferson and Jane Randolph. His father was a planter and surveyor who left behind a great deal of estate for him and his younger brother, Randolph.

Who Was Thomas Jefferson’s Brother?
Randolf Jefferson was the younger brother of Thomas Jefferson and the only male sibling of his to grow pass infancy. He was born on October 1, 1755 and died on August 7, 1815 at the age of 59.
He was actually a twin to Anne Scott Jefferson who died in 1828. Aside being the younger brother of Thomas with an age difference of 13, they were also very good friends.
Randolf and his elder brother, Thomas Jefferson inherited the estate of their father, Peter Jefferson after he died in 1757.
He schooled at The Grammar School at the College of William & Mary. But even around that time, Randolph had passion for violin hence started learning from Frances Alberti and continued to play till his death where he willed it to his son, Robert Lewis Jefferson.
Aside being an owner of the Snowden plantation he inherited from his father, Randolph also served in the military for about nine years where he rose to the rank of a captain of the local militia in 1794.
He served in the Revolutionary war (1775-1783) under General Thomas Nelson.
Randolph had six children (Thomas, Robert Lewis, Peter, Isham, James and Anna) with his first wife, Anne Lewis whom he married in July 30, 1781. However, she died in 1799 making Randolph a widower at the age of 44.
He later married Mitchie Ballow Pryor in 1809 with whom he had a son, John Jefferson.
