Thomas Anders Biography

Thomas Anders was born on March 1, 1963, in Koblenz, West Germany, and grew up in the little community of Mรถrz. Anders had a great interest in music from a young age and began taking piano and vocal classes.

At the age of six, he made his stage debut as Saint Nicholas in a Catholic children’s play. He later won a singing contest when he was ten years old, beating out 100 other children.

While still in school, Anders earned his first record contract with CBS and adopted the stage name Thomas Anders. His initial attempts to establish himself as a Schlager musician were futile, and he was dismissed by CBS in 1981.

In 1982, he joined Hansa Records and launched a series of Schlager songs that likewise failed to gain popularity. However, in 1983, Anders met producer Dieter Bohlen, with whom he founded the Eurodisco duo Modern Talking.

Modern Talking rose to prominence with their popular song “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul” in 1984. The duo became a worldwide sensation, selling over 120 million albums during their tenure together, thanks to a run of other big tunes.

Their triumph, however, was plagued by internal disagreements, and the duo eventually separated in 1987. They reformed in 1998 and had more hits before splitting up again in 2003. Lawsuits and extensive media coverage accompanied their divorce.

In the 1990s, after the second collapse of Modern Talking, Anders pursued a solo career. Although his solo releases did not fare well in the charts, his Spanish-language CD, Barcos de Cristal, did well in Argentina.

Anders launched his album This Time in 2004, reaching number 14 in Germany and producing number-one songs in Russia and Turkey. His subsequent albums, Strong and Two, were likewise well-received in overseas markets.

Anders is a musical icon in Eastern Europe, where he is more beloved than in his home country. He is well-known for his stadium tours and his appearances on New Year’s Eve in Poland.

The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv named him an honorary professor in 2006 for his contributions to developing a generation’s musical tastes. He is also Russia’s best-selling foreign artist of all time.

Anders has recently returned to singing in his native German, releasing albums such as Pures Leben and Ewig mit dir. He continues to sing and compose music, enthralling audiences with his powerful voice and commanding stage presence.

Despite his ups and downs in the music business, Thomas Anders is still a renowned and well-liked personality in the world of pop music.
