About The Students Loans Trust Fund
Under the Trustee Incorporation Act 1962, Act 106, the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) was founded in December 2005.
The Trust Fund’s aims are to provide financial resources for the Trust’s sound management for the benefit of students, as well as to help promote and enable the national principles expressed in Articles 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution.
Trust Fund’s Objectives
To achieve the Trust Fund’s objectives, money from the Trust Fund shall be applied to the relevant activities that the Trustees of the Fund may choose, including, in particular:
a. The provision of facilities to support students’ tertiary studies.
b. The granting of funds to support any such activities and programs for the promotion of relevant courses that the Trustees determine in agreement with the Minister.
The Students Loans Trust Fund is overseen by a Board of Trustees made up of notable persons with relevant expertise to the SLTF’s business. The board’s members are appointed by the President of the Republic. The SLTF’s day-to-day administration is led by the CEO, who is assisted by a team of devoted experts. The SLTF also maintains campus offices at major universities.
The functions of these offices include:
a. Provide first stop for student inquiries.
b. Pickup and drop off points for Loan Application forms.
c. Loan Application verification for completeness of forms.
d. Liaise between the SLTF and the loan applicants.
e. Disseminate information to students in a timely manner.
The sources of loanable funds for SLTF include:
a. Monies paid into the Trust Fund account for up to 10% of all inflows into the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
b. Voluntary contributions which will be tax deductible.
c. Mobilization of resources from Ghanaโs international partners interested in the advancement of tertiary education.
d. Contributions from the corporate sector that shall be tax deductible up to the equivalent of 0.5% of the companyโs actual profit before tax.
e. Loans from Social Security and National Insurance Trust.
Loan Application Requirements
Before applying for a loan, an applicant must have the following items in order to be successful. The application will be rejected unless these are submitted.
- You must be a Ghanaian who has been accepted into a recognized tertiary program in Ghana.
- You must be enrolled in a tertiary program, such as a diploma or first degree, and possess a Student ID card or admission letter.
- A valid Ghana Card Number is required (can be acquired at designated GRA offices for free).
- You must have a valid email address, an active registered mobile phone number, and an E-zwich Card (can be obtained at any bank)
