Stockton Rush was born on March 31, 1962, and he was known to be an American businessman and engineer. Stockton Rush was also the co-founder and chief executive officer of OceanGate, a deep-sea exploration company. He attended and graduated from the Princeton University.
After his University education, he worked for McDonnell Douglas as a flight test engineer on their F-15 program. After working for McDonnell Douglas for some time, he left and worked for BlueView Technologies.
He also worked with the Museum of Flight. It must be noted that Stockton Rush together with Guillermo Söhnlein in 2009, created OceanGate. He subsequently became the only founder of OceanGate when Guillermo Söhnlein left the company in 2013.
Without a doubt, Stockton Rush was born into a rich family and he had four siblings. His parents were Richard Stockton Rush Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Ellen Rush (née Davies) of San Francisco.
When Stockton Rush was a child, he so much wanted to become an astronaut and also become the first person on Mars. He also had love for aviation and aquatics. When Stockton Rush was about 12 years old, he took to scuba diving and at age 18, he became a commercial pilot. Due to his visual acuity, he was told it would be difficult for him to become a military aviator.
With respect to education, Stockton Rush graduated from the Princeton University and currently has an MBA. He received the MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1980. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Princeton University.
He also worked at the San Francisco firm Peregrine Partners as a venture capitalist. He worked at Pacific Northwest in 1989 and he was in charge of Remote Control Technology based in Kirkland, Washington.
He indicated that he had built an experimental aircraft that he flew throughout his life.
Stockton Rush married Wendy Weil, a pilot and teacher, in 1986. Stockton Rush and Wendy Weil had two children. Wendy Weil is known to be the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Blun Straus, who died in the sinking of the Titanic. Wendy Weil was once the Director of Communications at OceanGate.
Stockton Rush died on June 18, 2023. He died alongside four other people in the Titan submersible implosion during an attempt to visit the wreck of the Titanic in OceanGate’s Titan submersible.
