Stefanie Kloß, born on October 31, 1984, in Bautzen, is a German singer and is best known as the frontwoman of the popular pop-rock band Silbermond.
Stefanie grew up with her older sister in Caminau, a town in Upper Lusatia, Saxony. Her love of music began at an early age, and she obtained her first musical experiences as a student of the Ten Sing youth music initiative, singing in a choir.
In 1998, she was introduced to her cousins Johannes and Thomas Stolle through a friend. They founded Exakt, a six-piece cover band, with Andreas Nowak and Maximilian Maneck. JAST, a four-piece band comprised of Stefanie, Johannes, Thomas, and Andreas, formed in 2000. In 2002, they changed their name to Silbermond.
Silbermond inked a record deal with BMG in 2003, which marked the beginning of their meteoric journey to prominence.
Stefanie also worked with other musicians as a solo artist and with her bandmates. She appeared as a guest musician with Thomas Stolle on the Silly & Guests tour in 2005, and a live DVD of the tour was published.
She also sang the poem “Yes” by Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger, a Jewish poet who sadly perished in a work camp in 1942, on the CD project Selma – wrapped in longing.
Stefanie was an active participant in social causes and projects. She recorded “Sing dein Leben” for the German Cancer Aid Foundation as part of the Girls Check This campaign.
The song’s goal was to convince young ladies to get vaccinated against cervical cancer. She also took part in the Loud Against Nazis campaign, reading passages from Holocaust survivor Lucille Eichengreen’s recollections for an audiobook.
She also worked with Udo Lindenberg as a guest singer on the song “Der Deal” from his album “Stark wie zwei.”
Stefanie has also played a number of television roles over the years. She was a guest judge on “Unser Star für Oslo” (2010) and “Unser Song für Deutschland” (2011).
