Who Is Stacey Abrams? 

Stacey Yvonne Abrams is an American politician, lawyer, author and a voting rights activist born on December 9, 1973 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born to Robert Abrams and Carolyn Abrams and happens to be the second of six siblings.

Abrams was raised in Gulfport, Mississippi but the family later moved to Atlanta, Georgia because her parents enrolled at Emory University to obtain graduate divinity degrees. After their graduation, they became ministers of Methodist and later returned to Mississippi with Abrams three younger siblings.

She had her high school education at Avondale High School where she graduated as top of her class in 1991. Her writing skills was identified while in high school and became a speechwriter. After high school, Abrams continued to Spelman College where she graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

She later obtained a Master of Public Affairs degree in 1998 from the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs. But even that was still not enough for the former minority leader as she went on to obtain a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.

Abrams worked at the Sutherland Asbill & Brennan law firm in Atlanta as a tax attorney after she graduated from Yale University. She later on founded a legal consulting firm where she acts as CEO known as Sage Works.

She became a deputy city attorney for Atlanta at the age of 29 in 2002 and performed her role diligently. Abrams has since gone on to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017 and was the minority leader from 2011 to 2017.

She was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 and 2022 Georgia gubernatorial elections but unfortunately lost on both occasions to Republican candidate Brian Kemp.

Abrams is not married as of 2023. As a matter of fact, the politician, lawyer and voting rights activist has never been married. The issue of her marital status came up in the run up to the Georgia gubernatorial elections.

However, Abrams believes that shouldn’t be a problem. “I don’t think that should be the deciding factor” she said.
