Who Is Rolf Harris Wife? Meet Alwen Hughes 

Rolf Harris was married to his first and only wife Alwen Hughes from the late 1950s till he died on May 10, 2023 leaving behind his wife of over six decades.

Alwen Hughes is a Welsh jeweller and sculptor born on December 26, 1931 in North London. She later moved to Wales with her family where she was raised.

Harris and Alwen met while they were both studying art at City and Guilds of London Art School and went on to become husband and wife on March 1, 1958. Strangely, Alwen’s love for dogs was so great that she decided to have a poodle as her bridesmaid.

Unlike Harris who lived a public life mainly as a television personality, actor, singer, and a comedian, Alwen on the other hand preferred to live a low-key life. She stood by the television personality throughout his trials and was with him till he died.

At the age of 91, Alwen has also been struggling with her own health issues long before Harris died. She has been moving around for some time now with the help of a wheelchair because she is struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.

Her health was bad even before Harris was convicted in 2014 as revealed by singer, Vince Hill after the TV personality was convicted. He said “Alwen is very doing very poorly. We’re all very worried about her.”

“We don’t know if she will survive his prison term. She’s quite fragile. She suffers from arthritis and she’s had hip replacements and God knows what.”

They feared she was going to “drop down dead from the stress of the trial.” Thankfully that didn’t happen as she lived to see the release of Harris from jail in 2017 and is now a widow at the age of 91.

Did Rolf Harris Have Children With His Wife? 

Yes. Harris and his wife, Alwen Hughes had one child together named Bindi Harris, who was named after the town of Bindi Bindi in Australia.

She was born on March 10, 1964 in the UK. She also has art flowing through her veins as she is also pursuing a career in arts. She is a graduate of Bristol University where she studied fine arts and has since exhibited a number of her paintings at different galleries.

Bindi, who is 59 years old at the time of writing supported her father during his trial in 2014, attending almost every court sitting till he was sentenced to five years in prison.

She even published a book in 2018 titled “Living with a Pervert” in which she defended her father and instead blamed his generation for his “flirty” behavior.

Bindi has been married to artist, Craig Nicholas since 2008. But before that, she was in a relationship with Malcolm Cox, also an artist.

Her relationship with Malcom Cox produced a son named Marlon Cox, born in 1996.

Rolf Harris Cause of Death 

Harris died on May 10, 2023 due to neck cancer and “frailty of old age”. He died peacefully at his residence in Bray, Berkshire at the age of 93.

Prior to that, his poor health was first reported in October 2022 where it was announced that he was struggling with neck cancer and was unable to talk. And the only way to eat was to feed him through a tube.
