Rene Weller Cause of Death: Full Details

Rene Weller was born on November 21, 1953, and he was a German boxer. It must be noted that Rene Weller became German Champion nine times and vice-European champion among amateurs as well as German champion and twice European champion of the EBU among professionals.

Rene Weller was initially trained as a heating engineer and goldsmith but started boxing at a very young age. His father was also a boxer but he died when Rene Weller was only 14 years old. His father was called Harald.

Rene Weller was at the Blau-Weiß Pforzheim boxing ring from 1966 and he was hugely encouraged by trainer Heinz Weishaar who discovered him. On January 20, 1968, at a screening tournament organized by the Baden Boxing Association, Rene Weller won a supra-regional fight for the first time and later in 1969, he became the best youth bantamweight at the Baden Championships.

It must be noted that Rene Weller became the German bantamweight champion in 1972 after defeating Hans-Georg Pillarz. He also won the German featherweight championship four times in a row between 1973 and 1976.

Between 1977 and 1980, he also won the German lightweight championship four times in a row. Rene Weller represented Germany at the 21st Summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976 and he was victorious in the featherweight division before he succumbed to Romanian Gheorghe Ciochină.

He was also at the 1977 European Boxing Championships in Halle, the European Boxing Championships in Cologne in 1979, “100 Years of British Boxing Tournament” in 1980, the 1981 European Boxing Championships in Tampere as well as 1st World Cup in October 1979 in New York.

Rene Weller was in 2014 diagnosed with dementia. He made known in the summer of 2021 to the public. Unfortunately, he died in August 2023. He was 69 years old at the time of his death and he died in Pforzheim as a result of dementia.

He had a daughter and son from a previous relationship before he married the journalist Rosemarie “Maria” Dörk in 2013.
