It must be noted that he became the European Champion at the 2006 European Championships in Athletics in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was after he had beaten Belarusian Andrei Mikhnevich with a final put of 21.13 meters.
He also won the bronze medal during the 2005 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki. He recorded a put of 20.99 m.
