Peter Bruch was born on September 25 , 1955 in Berlin, Germany. Peter Bruch can be said to be a former swimming athlete from the GDR. It must be noted that beginning from 1970, Peter Bruch represented SC Dynamo Berlin so far as swimming was concerned.
Later in 1972, Peter Bruch qualified for the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. He teamed up with the likes of Roland Matthes, Wilfried Hartung and Lutz Unger, and they won the bronze medal. The team also finished in sixth place in the 4 x 200 meter relay.
It must be noted that in 1973 during the GDR championships, Peter Bruch placed second in the 100 meters while Roger Pyttel came up as the winner. In the 200 meters, he also finished in the third position. It was Roger Pyttel and Hartmut Flöckner who took the first two positions ahead of him.
He won in the 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay in 1973. Peter Bruch also took home the bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle relay at the 1973 World Swimming Championships. He achieved this feat together with Matthes, Pyttel and Flöckner.
At the GDR championships in 1976, he placed third in the 100-meter freestyle but was unable to qualify for the Olympics games. After retiring from swimming, he served as a sports teacher at SC Dynamo Berlin.
