Oskar Zwintscher was a German painter born in Leipzig on May 2, 1870. The father of Oskar Zwintscher were Bruno Zwintscher and he was a piano teacher. Oskar Zwintscher had a brother called Ruldolf Zwintscher.
Oskar Zwintscher had his education at the Leipzig Art Academy and School of Applied Arts between 1887 and 1890. He furthered his education at the Leon Pohie and Ferdinand Pauwels at the District Art Academy from 1890 to 1892.
After school, Oskar Zwintscher served as a freelance artist and he lived at the Albrechtsburg castle. He was able to work for three years through a scholarship from the E.Munkeitschen Foundation for Saxon painters.
He had a public exhibition of his works in 1898 for the first time and in the same year, he was the winner of the entrepreneur Ludwig Stollwerck’s first competition for designs for Stollwerck collector’s pictures.
Oskar Zwintscher also worked as a cartoonist for the Meggendorfer-Blatter.
He published his collection picture series titled Seasons in 1898. ‘The Thunderstorm ‘ followed in 1902 based on the invitation of Rainer Maria Rilke.
Oskar Zwintscher visited the Worpswede artist’s colony where he had to paint a portrait of him and his wife Clara. Oskar Zwintscher taught as a professor from 1903 at the Dresden Art Academy.
He was a member of the German Artist Association and he took part in the first DKB annual exhibition. The exhibition was organized in 1904 in the Royal Art Exhibition Building on Konigsplatz in Munich.
He served as a judge in 1904 in a competition run by Ludwig Stollwerck and Otto Henkell. Other judges involved include Emil Doepler the elder, Woldemar Friedrich, Claus Meyer, Bruno Schmitz, Raffael Schuster-Woldon and Franz Skarbina.
Oskar Zwintscher Cause of Death
Oskar Zwintscher died in Loschwitz. He died in 1916 and he was buried in the artist’s cemetery in Loschwitz. The cause of his death is unknown.
